Damn groovy work – and a real old school sort of 45! The groove here is funky, but more in a popcorn soul mode of the mid 60s than the 70s funk you’d find from other artists! “Some Place” romps around with a wickedly heavy sound – stomping out strongly from the very first note, and put together with production that really makes the record feel like some vintage 45 – a quality that’s further augmented by Nick’s bold soul vocals! “That Place” has this cool intro of rumbling handclaps and saxophone – very very cool – with almost an exotic soul undercurrent!
